Cash's 7th Birthday Party

For Cash's birthday this year I decided to create an obstacle course.  I had to find a central location for his classmates since they are spread out from Salem to South Corvallis.  I ended up choosing Adair park which is right next to his school.  It has a new playground and tons of space.  I got all of these ideas off Pinterest so don't bother being impressed with my imagination.  I had Josh build the balance beam with some stumps and 4x4s and he had it done in less than an hour.  I borrowed the old tires from Les Schwab, bought the straw bales for $4 a piece, and picked up the huge boxes from the local appliance center for free.  It was the cheapest birthday party yet, although a little more labor intensive since we had to collect and haul everything to the park and back.  Josh handled the stop watch at the finish line and the kids had fun trying to beat their previous time.

After the kids were done going through the obstacle course a couple of times, they decided to have more fun with the tires.  They stacked them, rolled them, filled them with sand.  Who knew a bunch of dirty old tires could provide so much entertainment.  Cash's cake was so last minute.  Like, 9am the morning of I was walking through the grocery store trying to figure out how to make an obstacle course cake.  The result wasn't spectacular but I made it myself (with the help of some Hostess and Little Debbie products) and I feel like it's more special that way.  Even if it's not as perfect as a store bought or bakery made cake.
